
Nakuru County Team’s Clinches Five Trophies in this year’s 11th Edition KICOSCA games 2024.

The 11th Edition of the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) 2024 games came to a close on Saturday at the Mumias Complex Sports Stadium. West Pokot was crowned champions in the football finals after a decisive 2-0 victory over Nairobi County.
Nakuru County had an exceptional outing, securing five trophies across various disciplines. The county triumphed in the Choir Set Piece and Darts categories, earned second place in Volleyball, and clinched third place in both the Men’s and Women’s tug-of-war competitions.
Speaking on the county’s achievements, Nakuru County Executive Committee Member for Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Services Josephine Atieno, lauded the teams for their hard work and dedication. She commended the management team, led by Acting Director for Sports Josephat Kimemia, for ensuring Nakuru’s stellar performance. Nakuru was also recognized as the most improved county, with all disciplines finishing in the top five.
Some Nakuru players have earned spots in the upcoming East African Local Authorities Sports and Cultural Association (EALASCA) Games, which will be held in Uganda early next year. Representatives will come from darts, volleyball (men), football and table tennis teams.
Host Governor FCPA H.E. Fernandes Barasa expressed gratitude to county officials for facilitating participation in this year’s event. He noted that the games provided an economic boost to Kakamega County by driving business activities, promoting tourism and enhancing the visibility of Mumias Municipality.
“These games align with our agenda on Social Development and Wealth Creation,” said Governor Barasa.
“They have fostered cultural exchange, encouraged health awareness and attracted potential long-term investments.”
Governor Barasa graced the closing ceremony, where he witnessed thrilling athletics events, the Men’s and Women’s tug-of-war finals and the Men’s Football final.
West Pokot Celebrates Dual Wins
The Governor of West Pokot, H.E. Simon Kachapin, who also serves as the Chair of Sports, Youth, Gender, Social Services and Inclusivity, congratulated all participating teams, particularly his county’s football and cultural teams.
“With a commanding 2-0 win over Nairobi County, our football team has made history,” he said. “This victory showcases our tactical brilliance and unyielding determination. Additionally, our cultural team excelled at the Mumias Cultural Festival, securing four trophies with outstanding performances in traditional Pokot dances and regional folk arts. This is a proud moment for West Pokot.”
Ag. Secretary General Humphrey Kang’ea applauded all participating counties for their commitment to excellence and pledged to work towards expanding the inclusion of all disciplines in future events.
This year’s KICOSCA games underscored the unifying power of sports and culture, fostering camaraderie and excellence across counties. The event set the stage for greater collaboration and representation in future inter-county and regional events.
