Bills seek to enhance bursaries, childcare

Officials from the County’s Department of Education and members of the Education Committee at the County Assembly today held a consultative meeting to deliberate on the two bills that are before the assembly.

These are the Bursary fund bill 2019 and the child care facilities bill 2019.

The two teams came together to discuss the way forward to have a clear legal framework on the 2 bills which will be of long term benefit for the people of Nakuru.

The bursary fund bill is seeking to establish the Nakuru County bursary fund that will ensure the needy, vulnerable and bright students get valuable scholarships.

Education CEC Mr Francis Mwangi stated that the bill will also establish the provision of grants to eligible students with disabilities currently enrolled in secondary schools, special primary schools, universities, colleges and Vocational Training Centers.

This will reduce disparities and inequality in the provision of Education and improve education standards and literacy levels in the county.

Mr Mwangi added that with the law in place, the administration will ensure that the beneficiaries get adequate and sufficient funds on time.

Nakuru County through the Childcare bill is also seeking to establish rules, law and regulations governing the protection of children in the childcare centres and daycare units.

Mr Douglas Ayabey, chair of the Education Committee echoed the CECM sentiments and reiterated that the laws, especially in the childcare centres, will create a smooth working environment in terms of the welfare of the children.
