County, AMREF-Health Africa partner in strengthening COVID-19 community-level responses

The County Government of Nakuru has partnered with the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF)- Health Africa to strengthen the County’s COVID-19 Pandemic preparedness capacity.

In the deal, AMREF Health Africa will strengthen COVID-19 community engagements and responses in Nakuru County for the next 6 months.

Public Health CO Mr. Samuel King’ori while welcoming the partnership said Nakuru is a high-risk citing porous borders and the recently set up inland container depot in Mai-Mahiu.

“They will use our already set program to strengthen our diagnostic capabilities and case management in community levels,” Mr. King’ori stated.

He cited that the strict public health measures set in place have seen the County record fewer COVID-19 cases as compared to other high-risk urban centers.

Mr. Duncan Ager, a Community Health Systems Strengthening Specialist at Amref Health Africa said the organization will continue to support the Department of Health in other auxiliary roles.

AMREF Health Africa and Kenya Red Cross Society have been picked to implement the European Union’s Sh596 million grant towards COVID-19 Pandemic response programs across 20 high-risk counties.
