The Chief Officer for Gender and Social Services Gladys Kamuren, officially handed over the construction site to the contractor for phase three development of the Orphaned and Vulnerable Children Centre (OVC) in Njoro Ward, Njoro Sub-county. The project involves constructing bathrooms, renovating the kitchen, and conducting electrical work.
The centre is designed to assist abandoned street children who have lacked proper care over the years. The construction and renovation of the OVC align with Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment to ensuring that shelter and essential provisions are provided for street families. The contractor pledged collaboration with the PMCs to employ local youth for the project.
During the exercise, Ms Kamuren affirmed her office’s commitment to supporting the contractor in completing the project and assured close collaboration to fulfil all requirements.
The contactor, Antony Tanui, promised to employ the local youths for manual labour. This is in line with H.E Susan Kihika’s promise to ensure the youth are employed which would help curb idleness and drug and substance abuse. He also said the project would be completed in two months.
Paul Kamau, representing the area MCA, pledged full support to the contractor adding that he will always be available when called upon. The project coordinator, Abel Mungai, promised the contractor that he would have maximum support and be paid on time.
Also in attendance were Project Coordinator Abel Mungai, Ward Administrator Mary Kang’ethe, and Engineers and Governor’s Coordinators.
