County to address poor learning in hearing-impaired learners

The Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), Voluntary Services Oversea (VSO) Organization and the Deaf Child worldwide Organization today paid a courtesy call to Education CECM Hon Zipporah Ngugi to discuss areas of collaboration in supporting and empowering the deaf learners in schools in Nakuru County.

This partnership is geared towards addressing the issue of poor performance among hearing-impaired learners and how to improve their education in the County for continuity and prosperity in future.

A pilot test on the same will be carried out for six months starting with pp1 learners as this is the initial stage in child development in education.

The CECM appreciated the partnership noting that the administration under H.E. Governor Susan Kihika is committed to promoting inclusivity and non-discrimination in education.

Hon Zipporah further highlighted that the county is set to employ over 100 ECDE teachers this financial year and applicants with hearing impairment and those with certificates in Kenya Sign Language will have an added advantage.

Also present were the Chief Officer Mr John Koech and Nakuru East Sub-county Education Officer Ms Janet Bii.
