County to Partner with Team Environment Kenya on Climate Change Mitigation

Water, Environment, Energy, Natural Resources, and Climate Change CECM Dr. Nelson Maara today met with a delegation from Team Environment Kenya, who are looking to partner with the County Government of Nakuru on climate change mitigation.

“We are greatly honored and privileged to work with such like-minded organizations as this places our county in the forefront on the climate change mitigation agenda,” said Dr. Maara

The meeting gave room for discussions on the green city project, carbon credit, increase in forest cover, establishment of more carbon sinks within the city, and the circular economy agenda.

Dr. Maara was keen to note that the H.E. Governor Susan Kihika led administration is committed to establishing systems that are pro-people through the involvement of the county government in environmental policy development at the national level so as to outreach the needs of the people.

The national co-ordinator for Team Environment Kenya, Rafique Mohamed, lauded the co-operation by the county government stating that the partnership will provide an important platform especially for awareness creation on aspects like tree growing which involves planting and maintaining of trees.

The County Government of Nakuru is also looking into establishing sensitization programs that target mostly young individuals in schools and at institutions of higher learning.

This criterion will be used to ensure young generations are well nurtured to understand the causes and effects of climate change alongside receiving education on the economic benefits of tree growing and the health and environmental hazards emanating from foul practices.
