Ebola sensitization is ongoing in Nakuru County, says Elizabeth Kiptoo – County Director for Public Health

Nakuru County is conducting sensitization for Health Managers on Ebola outbreak of Sudan Ebola virus (EVD) that is currently a threat in Kenya’s neighboring Country Uganda following a declaration of an outbreak in Uganda by the Ministry of Health on 20th September 2022.

Nakuru is among the counties marked as potential hotspots by the Ministry of Health due to its position along the Nothern corridor.

The County Director for Public Health Elizabeth Kiptoo has spearheaded disease surveillance in the County and mobilized the County Health Management Team members to join the National Ebola virus disease sensitization organized by the Ministry of Health.

This team will scale down the knowledge to the Sub County Managers and healthcare workers in the health facilities and the community with a focus on prevention.

Healthcare workers will be sensitized to early diagnosis of the virus and Infection Prevention Control measures, sample collection and management, provision of adequate commodities for prevention, preparedness, and other response measures.

The County’s Department of Health is currently mobilizing stakeholders and sector actors to develop a contingency plan with support from the Leadership of Governor Susan Kihika.

The Chief officer for Public Health, Dr. Daniel Wainaina urged the team to help identify, screen, and report high-risk populations like truck drivers and sensitize the community to identify and report suspected cases.
