Governor Lee’s govt launches construction of East Road
The County Government of Nakuru has launched the expansion of East Road in Biashara Ward, Nakuru East Sub-County.
Acting CECM for Roads Eng. Lucy Kariuki said the Sh30 million project will ease congestion on Maasai and Ronald Ngala roads.
The road will be expanded from the current 4 metres to 7.5 metres.
The first phase will start on Maasai Avenue (Bargain) to Shadrack Kimalel Road (Nakuru Nursing Home) and will take four months to complete.
The CECM assured the traders of minimal interference during the process citing that construction will begin once the drainage has been repaired and traders fully resettled.
County Director for Roads Eng. James Ochieng explained that box culverts will be constructed to cover a drainage behind stalls.
The stalls will then be moved behind the drainage to allow the expansion of the road to ensure there is no disruption to businesses.
Eng. Ochieng said the County has held a series of meetings with the traders to explain the construction and tthey have welcomed the move.
The traders said the project will boost their businesses as vehicles and more people will start using the road and also end flooding during rainy season.
The County hopes to expand Oginga Odinga Avenue among other major roads to ease flow of vehicles and improve safety of pedestrians.
