Healthcare workers trained on cervical cancer management
The County is training 26 nurse managers and reproductive health coordinators on how to screen and treat cervical cancer in a bid to reduce the cancer burden in the region.
The team is drawn from the 11 sub-counties and will be certified as Trainers of Trainers (ToTs) who will cascade the training to all government facilities for sustainable on-job training and mentorship.
This is in collaboration with the National Government Cancer and control program and Clinton Health Access-CHAI to also improve the quality of life and care for cancer patients.
Training the healthcare workers will ensure optimal utilisation of the upgraded infrastructure and leverage more investments towards the prevention of cancer in the county.
County Reproductive Health Coordinator, Ms Clara Kerich said that this will also ensure early detection of cancer and treatment without incurring any costs in treating severe cases.
Nakuru is one of the designated regional cancer centres with an Oncology Centre that provides chemotherapy services attending to thousands of cancer patients.
The County is in the final stages of completing and equipping the Radiotherapy banker at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital that will be operationalized in July this year.
