Road infrastructure development remains on the top list of physical infrastructural developments in Nakuru county, through the able leadership of Governor Susan Kihika.
The CECM for Roads, Transport and Public work Eng Michael Kamau, today inspected the ongoing works being undertaken in Turi ward, Molo Sub-county, under the Imarisha Barabara program.
The program which has fully transformed the wards by opening up new access roads and upgrading the existing ones has had notable change and positive feedback from the community, days after it Kicked off.
The CECM today witnessed the opening and grading of St Brendan’s – Mariko road and Sagaitim – Duka Mbili road.
These roads, which were formally footpaths, have been able to link residents going to Maji Moto-Sagaitim Center as well as helping students access St Brendan’s primary and secondary schools, which serves most of the students from the ward.
Samuel Mwiga, a resident of Minoga area in Turi Ward, noted that the road comes as a boost to residents as well as traders who have for a long period of time waiting for the road to be constructed as it will ease access to markets, hospitals and schools and also enhance economic activities in the region.
His sentiments were backed by Mary Njoki and Mr Tony Hunington.
“We have come to witness one of the flagship projects in our department that entails opening up of roads in areas that have never been accessed before by using machinery bought and maintained by the County Government of Nakuru. I want to thank the Governor as this is part of her brainchild. We have started with four road units and we’re targeting six units as proposed by our H.E Susan Kihika,” noted Eng Michael Kamau.
He also revealed that they plan to add more funds in the next financial year, so as to incorporate the aspects of drainages and culverts which will be able to sustain the roads fully.
Similar road works are currently ongoing in Neissuit, Viwandani, Malewa West, Ol’karia, Menengai West and Lakeview Wards.
