Kabatini Ward farmers receive 7,000 avocado seedlings under County-funded Crop Diversification Program
The County Government of Nakuru has commenced another phase of the distribution of avocado seedlings under the Crop Diversification Program.
Yesterday, 7,000 avocado seedlings were distributed in Kabatini Ward, Bahati sub-county. This is set to benefit about 411 farmers each getting 17 seedlings for their quarter-acre farms.
This year, the County will be distributing 36,827 seedlings to a tune of Shs10.7 million.
Overseeing the distribution was Agriculture Chief Officer, Mr Kibet Maina who said the County has made tremendous efforts in the program as farmers can sell their products to various processors.
He added that, since the inception of the program, the County has over 4,000 acres of land under avocado production and another 2,000 under private farmers’ initiatives.
The County will distribute the seedlings in Rongai, Molo and Njoro sub-counties.
