In a comprehensive two-day workshop held this week, the City Board focused on addressing key objectives such as structuring board committees, aligning resilience strategies and SDGs with City programs, and enhancing public participation through the Voluntary Local Review (VLR).
A significant highlight was the seamless leadership transition, as the outgoing Chair Stella Karanja passed on essential management tools to the incoming chair Stephen Muli.
The City’s proactive integration of new board members showcased a commitment to efficiency.
Discussions revolved around concluding the Kenya Urban Support projects, aligning with H.E Governor Susan Kihika’s County Urban Institutional Strategy. This strategy aims to empower urban boards, ensuring the effective delivery of functions and services to residents.
Other focus areas included a comprehensive presentation of the Board’s organogram, an overview of completed and ongoing projects, and a discussion on the draft City Charter.
“As the Board this emphasizes an inclusive approach, fostering a unified understanding among both new and existing board members. This promotes collaboration and informed decision-making across the entire board,” remarked Mr Stephen Muli
Hon John Kihagi, the CECM for Land, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development, emphasized maintaining vibrancy and inclusivity in urban boards. The engagement of all stakeholders in urban and peri-urban areas was underscored for sustainable urban development.
The workshop aimed at equipping Board Members with essential documents, fostering a well-informed and engaged group contributing actively to governance and decision-making processes.
The notable presence of County Attorney Caleb Nyamwange, County Assembly Chair Urban Planning and Infrastructure Peter Palanga, Chair Budget Alex Mbugua, Representative from Political Office Francis Njoroge, and the City Management staff underscored the commitment to a cohesive and informed Board.
