Nakuru County Champions Data Privacy

The County Government of Nakuru in conjunction with The Office of Data Protection Commissioner and other stakeholders today commemorated the International Data Privacy Day at the Nakuru Regional Office situated at Jennifer Riria Hub. Under the theme “Fostering a Culture of Data Privacy” the event underscored Nakuru County’s commitment to safeguarding personal data.
Representing the County Government, Chief Officer for ICT E-Government and Public Communication Stellah Mwaura underscored the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the personal information of its citizens. By employing a holistic approach, the county has implemented robust security and privacy measures to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of personal data. By prioritizing transparency and accountability the government aim to cultivate a positive rapport with the community fostering trust.
The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) is a personal data regulatory office whose key Mandate is to regulate the processing of personal data and protect the privacy of individuals.
Stellah highlighted Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment and the administration’s responsibilities of ensuring the privacy of personal data collected and processed are handled with utmost care and diligence.
Additionally, the Chief Officer stressed the importance of continuous training of County government officials handling personal data. As technology evolves, staying abreast of data protection laws and regulations remains paramount to ensure compliance and uphold privacy standards.
Deputy Data Protection Commissioner Rose Mosero, gracing the occasion, reiterated the crucial role of ODPC in preserving personal privacy. Mosero urged the stakeholders to register with the commissioner, emphasising the significance of understanding Data Protection laws to enhance compliance with regulations.
Nakuru County Government remains committed to fostering a culture of Data Privacy. By actively engaging with stakeholders and advocating for robust privacy measures, the county aims to create a safe and secure environment where personal information is respected and protected.
