Nakuru County Commemorates 16 Days of Activism against GBV

County Executive Committee Member for Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Services Josephine Atieno officially inaugurated the Molo Sub-county Community dialogue to commemorate the start of 16 Days of Activism themed ” UNITE! Invest to Prevent all forms of violence against women & girls! at ACC Grounds.
The County’s Directorate of Gender in collaboration with USAID TUJENGE JAMII held a community dialogue with local community leaders on GBV, Legal Frameworks on GBV, Mental Health and Referral Pathways
CECM Josephine Atieno emphasized the need to sensitize community leaders on handling and reporting GBV cases across the county. She also urged the administration to enforce the Children Act, particularly regarding cases of rape, defilement, and gender-based violence.
Selina Nkatha, the Director for Gender, urged the community leaders to take bold steps to ensure all cases on Gender are handled professionally and Constitutionally.
Vivian Yegon the Principal Gender Officer emphasized the need to incorporate all organs of government to ensure justice is found for the victims of GBV and culprits brought to book.
Jean Gitonga the team leader of Health in Molo Sub-county urged members of the public to report GBV cases without fear across all genders.
The partners in place in support of these celebrations of 16 days of activism called upon the administration to take bold steps to ensure that all cases see lights at the end of the tunnel. Also promised to support the journey of activism till its end on sensitization.
Present were County GBV Coordinator Jessica Mungai, David Kinaiya Molo Sub-county Administrator, USAID Tujenge Jamii, Women in Society Empowerment ( WISE), National Legal Aid Services ( NLAS), Nyumba Kumi wazees, Community Health Promoters (CHP), Chief’s, Sub-county Education Officer, Religious leaders.
