Nakuru County lauded for efforts made towards KUSP Projects in the city

Senior officials from the World Bank and State Department of Housing and Urban Development toured Nakuru City to inspect the progress of selected projects they finance which are ongoing and complete.

The projects which are funded through Kenya Urban Support Program (KUSP) seek to support the establishment and strengthening of urban institutions and systems to deliver improved infrastructure and services.

Led by the Director State Department of Housing and Urban Development Director, Charles K’onyango, the team was received by the County CECM for Land, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development John Kihagi.

Mr K’onyango lauded the efforts Nakuru County administration has put into the projects noting that they have greatly changed the outlook and functioning of the City and will positively impact people’s livelihoods for generations.

The Lands Executive hailed the projects saying H.E Governor Susan Kihika’s Administration is keen on improving the living standards of habitation for the residents of Nakuru City.

Mr Kihagi expressed confidence in the successful completion of the projects amid applause from the financiers who termed the milestone as noble and impactful to the City.

City Manager Mr Gitau Thabanja echoed the Land executive’s sentiments saying the upgraded roads enhance elaborate and continuous road connectivity and ensure proper spacing of the roads to accommodate all road users.

Some of the projects that were inspected include the construction of Crater Climb, Matundu, Free Area loop roads, Mashindano, Chui, Kipchoge Keino, Mbugua Mbugua roads and drainage, refurbishment of Afraha Stadium and the construction of Non-motorised transport system which is complete.

World Bank is currently financing an array of infrastructural projects in the City including the construction of roads, stormwater drains, streetlights, and walkways among others.

Also present were UDD Engineer Benjamin Njenga, City’s Vice Chair Jepta Rono, and technical officers from UDD and City Board.
