Nakuru County, NACC partner in war against HIV/Aids
The County Government of Nakuru has entered into a data and technology partnership with the National Aids Control Council (NACC) in the war against HIV/Aids.
The NACC is carrying out population-based surveys that will guide the prevention of HIV transmission and provision of care and support to the infected and affected.
Data collected will be queued into an online monitoring system service for coordinated action in a move aimed at achieving the Universal Health Care coverage.
Dubbed, the Kenya HIV Situation Room, the application will provide downright, up-to-date and centralized data on HIV/Aids prevalence.

The main interface of the HIV/Aids map will help identify a range of patterns and trends; the infected, those on treatment and receiving counselling, drugs in stock and medical officers handling the cases.
While commending the move, Governor Lee Kinyanjui said the platform will speed up and streamline communications between policy-makers and implementers.
“We will now know in time the needs of our people and the decision to take for better services,” said the Governor.
Chief Officer of Health, Dr Samuel Mwaura said the innovative tool will help the department to fill gaps even in managing other related fields.
“The platform can also show the number of antenatal care visits and the availability of antiretroviral drugs in a specific health facility,” added Ms Regina Ombam, NACC Deputy Director.
Some 14 officers from the County AIDS and STI Coordination unit have been trained on the technology-centred approach to accelerate the progress towards ending its AIDS epidemic.
The HIV prevalence in Nakuru County is lower than the national prevalence at 4.1%, according to the Kenya HIV Estimates 2015.
The report highlights that Nakuru County contributed to 2.7% of the total number of people living with HIV in Kenya, and is ranked the ninth nationally.
Also present were NACC’s Head of Monitoring and Evaluation Mr Joshua Gitonga, County Director of Medical Services Solomon Sirma, Deputy Director of Medical Services Dr Daniel Wainaina and officials from the county and national government ICT departments.
