Nakuru eyes UNESCO Creative Cities Network status

The County Government is working to ensure Nakuru is designated as United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO)  Creative Cities Network as the town gears towards attaining city status.

The UCCN was created in 2004 to promote cooperation with and among cities that have identified creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development

Nakuru’s rich creativity has been identified as a strategic driver and enabler for sustainable social and economic development.

The administration through the Nakuru Municipal Board and the Directorate of Tourism and Culture are working collaboratively to ensure the dream is arrived at.

Representatives from the departments today took part in a consultative meeting for key stakeholders on UNESCO 2005 convention and the UNESCO International Fund for Cultural Diversity.

The meeting involved discussions on ways of tapping into diverse creativity and achieve greater recognition of the county’s culture, ways of fostering long term economic growth in the county among others.

This will enable the county to be strategic in upgrading matters of culture and creativity hence create employment opportunities for the young people.

The meeting was joined by the Nakuru Municipal Manager Gitau Thabanja and Culture Director Selina Nkatha among other officials.
