Salgaa Set To Be An Industrial Hub

The County Government of Nakuru will designate Salgaa area as an industrial area as Nakuru town inches closer to being a City.

Governor Lee Kinyanjui said the move is intended to protect the environment in Nakuru town and especially the Lake which is a key tourist attraction.

The Governor said new investors will be encouraged to set their industries in the fast-growing locality located along the busy Nakuru -Eldoret Road.

He advised potential investors to take advantage of the expansive and low land prices in the area as compared to Nakuru town.

The County Government, the Governor said, will improve the road network in Salgaa and near the Highway to make it more suitable for investors.

“We want to draw our industries out of town and investors should take advantage of the friendly business environment in this area and set up their business here,” he added

The Governor was speaking today after touring the multi-billion Simba Cement Factory which is expected to start it’s operations next month.

He later toured the neighboring Mega Paper and Boards Company which produces corrugated cartons and various papers used in packaging different products.

The Governor said the reduction of duty on imported paper from 30 %to 10 % poses a major threat to the local paper manufacturing sector.

“I will raise the issue with the national Government to ensure our manufacturers are protected from unfair competition,” he said

The Company produces corrugated cartons and various papers used in packaging of different products from waste.

The Governor said the County will soon have a better-organized waste management program at the Giotto dumpsite.

He concluded his day-long industrial tour by visiting Mea Fertilizer Ltd, situated in Nakuru town’s industrial area, where he said the County Government will ensure farmers have access to quality farm inputs for better yields.

The Governor was accompanied by among others CECMs Mr.Raymond Komen (Trade and Tourism) and Dr. Immaculate Maina(Agriculture and Fisheries).
