The Health Success

The Department of Health under the leadership of H.E Governor Lee Kinyanjui is working towards increasing the access of Nakuru residents to various medical services including drugs and health personnel.
In his manifesto, Governor Kinyanjui enumerated Health as one of the key components that make up a successful County.
Some of the achievements by the Department of Health include;
Awarding of Nurses
The awarding is as a result of acknowledging hard work done by various medical staff across the County.
During the awarding ceremony that was held in mid-July this year, the department awarded its staff who had stellar performance, in the course of the year. The awards were in the form of a job promotion, the increment of salaries, tours, and academic sponsorships.
This is a long term policy spearheaded by the County and aimed at motivating its staff while ensuring the Medical department achieves its set goals.
The setting of the bakery at PGH
According to the Medical Superintendent at the Nakuru Referral Hospital Dr. Joseph Mburu, the project aims at increasing the supply of bread in the hospital while cutting the cost of buying bread from suppliers.
The County spends approximately Sh700, 000 every month on bread.
The procurement of a bakery machine is coming in to reduce these figures while enabling patients to purchase a loaf of bread at Sh25-Sh30 as compared to the market price of Sh50.
It is projected that about 400 loaves of bread will be produced each day, to serve the entire hospital.
Construction of the outpatient wing
The County Government is also setting up a modern outpatient wing aimed at expanding the Referral hospital, which has experienced an influx of patients at the outpatient department, due to increased referrals from other hospitals in Nakuru and neighboring Counties.
Currently, the Referral hospital serves patients from Bomet, Kericho, Samburu, Baringo, Nyandarua, and Laikipia among other Counties where 2,000 patients are treated daily, 750 of them being inpatients.
The Outpatient wing worth Sh 500,000 million will have a pharmacy, x-ray and laboratory services.
Mother Baby wing
Opened by H.E Margaret Kenyatta in 2018, the medical care has become a blessing to expectant mothers in Nakuru and other Counties.
The 250-bed maternity wing offers services which include, Child clinic, immunization, comprehensive maternity care, and family planning.
It also offers a special care to children born with complications at the neonatal intensive care unit within the same wing.
The wing worth Sh450 million has four modern theatres as well as antenatal and postnatal clinics.
