Total Laboratory Automation, Nakuru Centre of Excellence

Nakuru County Referral and Teaching Hospital is set to become a Center of Excellence, being the first to have a Total Laboratory Automation- TLA, in East Africa. The Department of Health today had an exclusive engagement with ElsMed, a group of companies providing healthcare solutions and supplies.
This follows an earlier engagement with H.E Governor Susan Kihika who met the ElsMed Healthcare Chief Executive Officer Yaren Farachi to discuss ways the collaboration can help provide access to medical care to residents of Nakuru concerning laboratory diagnostic equipment. H.E Governor Susan Kihika’s agenda on Health is to ensure the residents of Nakuru enjoy the highest quality of care.
The engagement seeks to bring a Turnkey solution with Hubs and SPOKEs- primary networks that promote smart sample collections, County Laboratory Information systems, and Health Information Systems. There will be Central monitoring of all county health facilities through an integrated solution for inventory management with maximum efficiencies that generate revenues.
The collaboration defines ELSMED will be distributing, installing, laying, and maintaining diagnostic equipment at their cost. The County Government will provide the IT Infrastructure and digitize health systems as part of the manifesto of H.E Governor Susan Kihika that seeks to improve access to healthcare by utilizing new technologies.
ELSMED has a zero referral strategy that will be screening and monitoring chronic diseases, short turnaround time, scalable systems, quality, and high availability. This will enhance the quality, accessible, and affordable health service delivery at all levels of care.
County Executive Committee Member for Health, Ms Jacqueline Osoro led the engagement that brought on board the Chief Officer for Medical Services, Dr John Murima, the County Attorney, Mr Caleb Nyamwange, the County Directors of Health and County Referral and Teaching Hospital Management Team.
