Traders urged to form SACCOs to access low-interest credit
The County Government of Nakuru has urged traders to form associations in their respective markets to help access credit facilities at low-interest rates.
Trade, Tourism and Cooperative Chief Officer Kennedy Momanyi said forming associations within the markets will help traders network and benefit from their unity.
Mr Momanyi was speaking during a public participation meeting at Weight and Measure ground offices with market traders representatives drawn from all the sub-counties in Nakuru County.
“This is a good sign that we are listening to the challenges of our people, we are aware that we have a very important role to play, and because of that we have to organize ourselves”, he said.
He said the move will see most markets drawn from the County strengthened and positioned as a major player in the County’s economy.
Director of Trade, Ms Dorcas Njeri said the meeting has also provided a platform to share skills and knowledge that if implemented will see smooth operations of various markets for the benefit of the people of Nakuru County.
Some of the issues discussed were touching on market leadership, conflict management within the markets and how to maintain the standards of the markets among other important market agendas.
The team thanked Governor Lee Kinyanjui for his commitment to improving market conditions through structures and favourable policies.
