World Wildlife day celebrated in Nakuru County

Trade County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Hon Stephen Kuria together with Chief officer (CO) for Tourism and Culture Ms Rosemary Wambui on Friday represented H.E. Governor Susan Kihika in leading the tourism stakeholders and Nakuru residents to mark the World Wild Life Day celebrating.

In a speech read by CECM trade, the Governor called on the need by the county and all the stakeholders to cement the existing partnerships and build new ones with all players in wildlife protection which is critical for the future of the tourism sector in Nakuru County.

Hon Kuria called on the need by the Kenya Wildlife Service to consider setting friendly park charges for the locals to enjoy the tourism resources endowed within the County.

His sentiment was echoed by the Tourism CO who pointed out the need to embrace a blue economy that will see the optimal use of the five lakes the county is endowed with.

“Since the blue economy is the next frontier to our economy, the county government is ready for a dialogue with various stakeholders to see how best we can positively and fully tap into our lakes to help realize their economic potential to economically empower our people of Nakuru County,” said the CO.

The celebration whose theme was “Partnership for Wildlife Conservation” was punctuated with pomps and colours as various entertainers; traditional dancers, singers and students articulated diverse messages in line with this year’s wildlife conservation theme.

World Wildlife Day (WWD) is an opportunity to celebrate the many beautiful and varied forms of wild fauna and flora and to raise awareness of the multitude of benefits that their conservation provides to people.

Present during the event were County Deputy Commissioner, Francis Njoroge from the Office of the Governor, community representatives, regional Forest Conservator, and Warden representatives among others.
