Residents of Elementaita ward can finally sigh with relief after the County Government of Nakuru set up a legal desk to sort out land succession cases at no cost to the mwananchi.

On a tour of the ward yesterday, Deputy Governor Dr. Erick Korir, was accompanied by a team of lawyers whose fees are to be fully catered for by the County Government of Nakuru.

The tour which kicked off at the Kiambogo settlement scheme, saw 13 schools awarded land title deeds in order to deter rampant land grabbers in the area.

Under the succession support program, the pro bono legal practitioners set up an information desk where affected residents were urged to bring all the relevant documents in order to expedite the titling process.

Dr. Korir informed the residents that Governor Lee Kinyanjui has availed a county surveyor whose services were absolutely free as opposed to the private surveyors who are charging exorbitant rates.

The tour proceeded to the Old Game area, where residents were awarded 600 title deeds. The residents were assured that the Governor had waived all pending county council land rates hence the titles would not involve any extra charges.

Residents were urged to present relevant and truthful information as well as two key witnesses at the legal desk that was set up in order to handle succession cases.

Hon. Korir called on the residents of Old Game to tackle land wrangles via alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in order to avoid the ardor’s process of litigation.
