4th Lake International Pan-African Film Festival (LIPFF) to be held in Nakuru
The 4th Lake International Pan-African Film Festival (LIPFF) will be held in Nakuru from 6th to 8th November this year.
This is the second time in a row for Nakuru to host the event. In the past edition, 10 African countries participated.
Previously known as the Lake International Poetry and Film Festival, it’s meant to empower the Youth on the power of film for social change and to sensitise young performers and film makers on film and entrepreneurship.
This will be important to the Youths in Nakuru County as they will have benefited from a master class from the Director and producer of “Sarafina” ,Stuart Nash from the Nairobi Performing Arts Studio, who will take them through Acting ,Directing and Producing on 3rd October, an initiative fully supported by Governor Lee Kinyanjui.
Some of them will also feature in the play to be showcased at the Nakuru Players Theatre in commemoration of the 70 years the facility has been in existence.
The youths will further be considered in showcasing of the “Lion King” and “Nairobi half Life” on dates to be confirmed later.
According to the Gender, Culture and Social Services Chief Officer ,Ms Tumme Abduba, the hosting of these events makes Nakuru the ultimate Tourism, Cultural and Film hub in the Country.
She said the hosting of the event last year, made the County Directorate of Culture to attract partners such as the Kenya Film Commission, Kenya Film and Classification Board and be the County in Focus during the Kalasha International Market whereby the film “OleNaibon “,produced by the Directorate of Culture ,was showcased .
They also got recognition and possible partnerships from the French Embassy whereby they expressed interests in training Nakuru Artists on Animation production .There is also an imminent MOU signing with the Kenya Film Commission whereby they will undertake to train Artists in Nakuru on Film Making.
Hollywood producer and composer Elvin Ross ,whose work include the Documentary “Kunta Kinteh Island” and producing for T.D Jakes and Tyler Perry also visited Nakuru County early this year on a mission to produce a film and mentor upcoming film makers together with Toussaint Duchess,an actress in “Fred Hammond Christmas” .
Young people in the performing arts and creative industry will truly benefit from these initiatives.
