65 micro-project proposals benefitting from the National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth Project (NARIGP funding

8 Community Driven Development Committees (CDDCs) yesterday received cheques worth Ksh 9,564,920 from the World Bank.
The cheque which was handed over to the committees by Deputy Governor Dr. Eric Korir, on behalf of Governor Lee Kinyanjui, seeks to strengthen the ability of community-based institutions to improve their agricultural productivity, food security, nutrition status, and market linkages.
The money under the National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth Project (NARIGP) is 40% of the total project cost and 60% will later be released as the work progresses.
Dr. Korir said NARIGP aims at addressing the main constraints facing agriculture by increasing agricultural production and productivity using community participatory and value chain approaches.
He urged farmers to be good forerunners for the implementation of the project to be emulated with other participating counties as well as make use of natural resources for the common good.
CECM Agriculture, Dr. Immaculate Maina, confirmed that 65 micro-project proposals were benefitting from the funding and added that the four value chains supported had the capacity to provide for all households.
With Nakuru County being the leading producer of milk and ranking second in potato production with 12 tonnes per acre, Dr. Maina said that expected agricultural productivity and profitability of each product will be increased at the targeted rural communities over a period of time.
NARIGP is a National and County Government initiative funded by World Bank across 21 counties including Nakuru. The project areas within the county include Molo, Njoro, Bahati, Naivasha and Kuresoi North Sub Counties. The 65 micro-project proposals are categorized into 33 for value chains, 16 for sustainable land management, 8 for vulnerable marginalized groups and 8 for nutrition.
