Animal vaccination for foot and mouth disease marks its second day in Bahati Sub County.

Vaccination of animals for the foot and mouth disease marked its second day in the Bahati Sub County.

The foot and mouth disease has been reported in Bahati, Subukia, Rongai, and part of Molo town in the county.

David Mwangi, a livestock farmer in the Bahati area acknowledged the County Government’s efforts to provide vaccination for the foot and mouth disease.

Mr. Mwangi preferred the services provided by the County Government to those provided by the veterinary in the private sector as he termed them expensive.

The County Director for veterinary services, Dr. Kaba Githui said that the county government of Nakuru had set aside Ksh50 million that will be used for the exercise.

Dr. Githui urged farmers to ensure their animals are vaccinated and made it clear that sick animals will be treated before being vaccinated.

He advised the farmers who rear their livestock through the zero-grazing method to vaccinate their animals as they were also at risk of contracting the foot and mouth disease.

Cows, sheep, and goats were vaccinated against the foot and mouth disease and lumpy skin disease which are likely to be contracted within the affected areas.

Farmers in the Subukia area thanked the County Government officials for the provision of the vaccine saying it would cut away the expense of farmers trying to procure the vaccine.
