County demolishes defective house, puts rogue developers on notice

A building that was found to be structurally defective in Naka Estate was today demolished by the Nakuru County Government.

According to the CECM in charge of Lands, Housing and Physical Planning Mr Joseph Kiuna who supervised the exercise, the developer has for the last 18 months failed to heed to regulations and guidelines issued by the County and National Construction Authority (NCA) to ensure the safety of the building.

After he failed to do this, a demolition notice was issued to him to bring down the building at his own cost. When the developer failed to demolish the building as directed, the County Government of Nakuru called for a multi-agency team, including the NCA, to review the matter.

The team considered past communication with the developer and unanimously resolved that the building is safely demolished to avert loss of life and protect adjacent properties.

The County Government of Nakuru is keen to ensure the safety of residents. To avert the construction of unsafe buildings, the County will recommend action be taken against the architect and engineer engaged to supervise the construction work.
