County enhances Oxygen monitoring, supply in COVID-19 era
The County Government of Nakuru is committed to providing quality management of COVID-19, especially in critical care where patients may need supplemental oxygen.
Nakuru Level 5 Hospital has ensured the Oxygen Plant that supplies oxygen and oxygen accessories to over 15 neighbouring counties is serviceable and well managed.
The Department of Health Services in collaboration with Clinton Health Access Initiative has distributed 80 Pulse Oximeters to all level 2, 3, 4 and 5 hospitals across the region.
The non-invasive device clips onto a finger to measure how much oxygen is in someone’s blood. Low oxygen levels can be an early warning sign that medical care is needed.
Many people with COVID-19 have low levels of oxygen in their blood, even when they feel well. In December 2020, the County trained over 95 healthcare workers on Oxygen and Pulse Oxymetry.
According to the County Clinical Officer, Mr Jackson Cheruiyot, the County will continue investing in access to medical oxygen and related technologies to meet COVID-19 needs.
The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated global oxygen demand and made the delivery of oxygen supplies more urgent than ever. A normal level of oxygen is usually 95% or higher.
