County goes for organized groups to upscale COVID-19 vaccination coverage

The County Government of Nakuru is targetting organized groups for free COVID-19 vaccination in a bid to upscale coverage.
County Minister for Health, Dr. Gichuki Kariuki said this would ensure a large population is covered, especially against the virulent Delta variant.
He was speaking when he oversaw the vaccination of teachers under the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital.
He said only 13,147 teachers in Nakuru County had received the first dose of the vaccine while 7,957 others had received the full dose.
“Teachers interact with our children, who later join their parents at home. Teachers are a key population and must be fully vaccinated,” he stated.
Dr. Gichuki said the Department of Health would even visit organized groups in their localities for the free vaccination.
TSC Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Nancy Macharia said the number of teachers vaccinated across the country was not impressive.
She urged the teachers to get the jab ahead of the August 23, 2021 deadline issued by the Head of Public Service, Joseph Kinyua.
At the same time, she thanked the teachers for ensuring schools completed the 2020 and taken off well for the 2021 academic calendar.
