County invests in disaster management
The County Government of Nakuru is investing in modern technology and human capital to attend to disasters across the County efficiently and effectively.
Chief Officer for Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance, Ms Ann Njenga added that the County is partnering with other agencies to train communities on safe fire handling techniques to avert disasters.
She highlighted that Governor Lee Kinyanjui’s administration is enhancing its disaster preparedness by revamping its fire fighting services department at Sh174 million.
The construction of a modern fire station, opposite Nyayo Gardens, is almost complete while 30 firefighters have graduated from the Morendat Institute of Oil and Gas in Naivasha.
While announcing the arrival of two new fire engines to serve the Nakuru Municipality, the Chief Officer said plans are underway to equip all major towns with independent firefighting capacity.
She was speaking when she presented food and non-food items worth Shs100,000 to the family of Sheikh Adow Mohammed who lost his property to fire at White House, Nakuru Town East sub-County.
Sheikh Adow lost his entire livelihood in a fire tragedy that also claimed the life of a domestic manager. The Chief Officer delivered a condolences message from Governor Lee Kinyanjui.
