County moves to end perennial floods in Maiella Ward

The County Government of Nakuru is working towards finding a lasting solution to the perennial flooding menace in Maiella Ward, Naivasha sub-County.

Over the years residents of Kipkonyo, Huruma and Duro villages in Ndabibi Location have suffered losses due to flooding following heavy rains in Sakutiek and Melili areas of Narok North.

Today, a team of top County officials, among them engineers, toured the areas on a fact-finding mission and held talks with locals, investors and administrators for intervention.

Heavily affected are small-scale farms, residential and business buildings, Kipkonyo Dispensary and Rainforest Flower Farm.

Chief of Staff Mr Njoroge Gichuhi, who represented Governor Lee Kinyanjui, said the County is investigating reports that some farmers have blocked the natural waterway.

Also, today, the County Government of Nakuru distributed food and non-food items to over 300 families affected by the floods.

Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance CO Ms Ann Njenga said the County in collaboration with the Kenya Red Cross is assessing other areas in the Ward for interventions.

“Over 5,000 families in Nakuru County have been affected by the ongoing heavy rains. We advise them to move to safer grounds to avert disasters,” she stated.
