County partners with CDC, Amref health Africa to accelerate COVID-19 responses

The County Government of Nakuru has partnered with Amref Health Africa and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention to ramp up COVID-19 responses in the region.

The partnership seeks to accelerate testing, contact tracing, and treatment of cases in Nakuru Town East, Nakuru Town West, Rongai, Subukia, and Naivasha sub-counties.

County Director of Public Health and Sanitation Ms Elizabeth Kiptoo said the program will only run in the 5 sub-counties as the rest have a similar initiative supported by the USAID through Afya Uzazi.

Through the program, the County has trained over 30 community frontline healthcare workers on identifying cases and their contacts at the community level.

Since everyone cannot be tested, because of global shortages of test kits, the initiative will focus on “smart screening” — testing in areas with high levels of cases.

Community Health Extension Workers and Community Health Volunteers actively involved in the program will receive a Sh2,000 monthly stipended for the next 6 months.

Community Health Systems Strengthening Specialist at Amref Health Africa Mr Duncan Ager said the organization will also support the County in community dialogues and home visits during the reporting period.
