County, Police partner to end CBD traffic snarl-ups
Nakuru Municipal Board is committed to overseeing a smooth flow of traffic within the Municipality.
Municipal Manager Mr Gitau Thabanja today chaired a consultative meeting with Nakuru Traffic Base Commanders over concerns on rampant traffic snarl-ups in town.
The meeting was geared towards establishing long-lasting measures that would help address the overwhelmed persistent traffic congestion along with the Central Business District and some road sections in town.
Some of the challenges observed that contributed to increased traffic volumes include disregard of traffic laws by drivers, inadequate road capacity, few pedestrian crossways, smooth traffic barriers including bumps and faded zebra crossings.
The Manager however affirmed the Board’s commitment collaboratively with the relevant authorities to streamline the transport system to be efficient, effective and reliable to all even as the Municipality nears elevation to city status.
“Already, the administration has rolled out various projects tailored towards decongesting the town,” He noted.
They include rehabilitation of low volume sealed roads, construction of a modern bus park, installation of traffic lights along with the busy CBD, rehabilitation of the Railway line which will be interlinked with the construction of County bus terminus for smooth flow of traffic among other infrastructural upgrades.
Mr Thabanja further said that the Board under the leadership of H.E the Governor has announced plans to install Cctv cameras along with the major traffic hotspots and street furniture.
Additionally, the recruitment of more traffic marshalls will be very significant in solving the problem.
Also present in the meeting was the Acting Director of Roads Engineer Kariuki.
