County refutes drugs shortage claims

The pharmacy department at the Molo sub-County Hospital is well stocked contrary to reports making rounds on social media platforms.

While on a fact-finding mission, County Minister for Health Dr Gichuki Kariuki noted that the stock can serve the facility for the next month.

He said it is unfortunate that activists were being used by politicians to discredit Governor Lee Kinyanjui’s administration as ineffective for selfish interests.

Dr Gichuki said the facility has all the pharmaceutical and other items found in Level 4 Hospitals.

The County spends over Sh100 million every quarter (3 months) to buy drugs that are distributed to all county-owned health facilities.

In the 2018/19 financial year, Nakuru was ranked top County by the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority in terms of clearing debts from drugs supplied.

Dr Gichuki explained that drugs are stocked as per the facility policy of service delivery through the pull system and a three months’ workload projection.

That is, a diabetic patient visiting a Dispensary would be referred to a Health Center for treatment as Dispensaries do not manage diabetes.

Molo sub-County Hospital medical superintendent Dr Bernard Warui said no person had called on him to seek clarification on the said drugs stock-out.

Dr Warui said the stores and pharmacy records are available for scrutiny by interested people.

He asked locals to support Governor Lee’s efforts in ensuring residents get quality and affordable healthcare services.
