COVID-19 Tourism Recovery Strategy
The County Government of Nakuru in its bid to restore operations in the tourism industry has called for a dialogue among key stakeholders from National County and county level.
The County Minister for Trade and Tourism Raymond Komen says the prolonged effects of COVID-19 pandemic have paralyzed operations in the sector leaving residents with suffering among them joblessness.
Speaking during a televised interview with MBCI TV said there is a need to cope with the disease by observing the provided health protocols and continue working.
“Tourism contributes a lot to the economy of Nakuru and therefore, we are working hand in hand with the hotels, parks, and tourism shrines to do testing to their workers and issue them with a certificate so as to continue working, Komen said.
The CECM said Governor Lee Kinyanjui’s administration has laid down different recovery strategies which include a discussion with Kenya Tourism Board, Tourism Fund, Tourism Finance Corporation, Tourism Research Institute, and the Tourism Regulatory Authority on how to revive the industry.
“As Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to impact travel both locally and globally, we are observing industry forecasts and trends that will ultimately shape recovery strategy as hotels begin to plan for the initial rebound in travel demand, “ he said
He also urged County residents to visit local tourist sites like Subukia Shrines, Nakuru National Park, Hellsgate, and Mt. Longonot adding that such sites are therapeutic and healing as compared to other social settings which are weaker links to the virus.
