Goats worth Sh5.7milion sold at Nakuru Easter goat auction

Goats and sheep worth Sh5.7million were sold during the inaugural Nakuru Easter Goat Auction presided over by Governor Lee Kinyanjui on Wednesday.
The auction, aimed at boosting livestock farmers, was held at Banita Livestock Market in Soin Ward.
Speaking at the event, Governor Kinyanjui said the turnout by farmers at the market shows there is potential for sale of goats to a wider market.
He said the auction will be held annually a week before Easter holidays.
Governor Kinyanjui said the County Government will assist farmers to have quality livestock through vaccination.
He said he will launch a vaccination exercise at Wei next week.
“We will partner with Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute, KEVEVAPI, for production of specific vaccines for Nauru county,” he said.
The Governor urged farmers to upgrade their breed so that they can have superior breeds that can withstand adverse weather conditions.
He said the County Government will also upgrade the Banita Livestock Market to accommodate more traders and better facilities for business to thrive.
The Governor was accompanied by his Deputy Dr. Erick Korir, CECs Dr Immaculate Maina (Agriculture), Eng. Lucy Kariuki (Lands), Mr Mwania Mwangangi (Public Service) and Ms Halima Gababa (Youth and Gender).Soin Ward MCA Irene Chebichii and a host of other members of County Assembly were also present.
