Nakuru First Lady graces county sports championship for children with special needs

Nakuru County First Lady H.E Elizabeth Kinyanjui today graced the 2018 Nakuru County Special Needs Education Championship at Nakuru Hills Special for Mentally Challenged Learners.

She said her office has initiated a project called Naweza to advocate for education of children with special needs.

“With support, all the children are able to learn. We will work hard to ensure we have special units in schools in the county and also encourage parents to take children with special needs to school,” she said.

Through Naweza initiative, her office has placed 15 pupils in schools and taken others for medical checkup. Two boys have been placed in Dundori Polytechnic.

She said she will look for partners to help the initiative and also look for ways to economically empower parents who have children with special needs and have to stay at home to take care of them.

She said Nakuru Governor H.E Lee Kinyanjui donated a school bus and constructed home science classroom at Hill Special school when he was area MP and expressed confidence of working with the County Government for the benefit of children.

She said the Governor donated three sheep to the participating schools.

Participants in the sports were drawn from five special schools and 15 special units and winners will represent the County at regional (formerly Rift Valley) championships.

Guests present included County Director of Education representative Ms. Clarice Mwita, County SNE Coordinator Ms Elizabeth Kimani. Ms. Elizabeth Mwarangu and Ms. Zipporah Kimani from the County First Lady’s office were also present.
