Governor Lee disburses Ksh 55 Million for bursaries

A total of Sh 55million worth of bursaries was disbursed today to all 11 sub counties in the first phase this financial year.
While issuing the bursaries at Temyotta, Nyota ward in Kuresoi North, Governor Lee Kinyanjui also distributed ECD learning materials and furniture to Kiptororo, Nyota, Kamara and Sirikwa wards.

The Governor further directed the bursary committee to ensure the second tranche of the bursaries is released on time.

He reiterated the County Government’s commitment on improving the standards of education in Kuresoi North.

In the previous KCSE exams, Kuresoi North was ranked second last in the County. Over 66 percent of students got a grade of D and below. In primary school results, Kuresoi South was ranked number 9 out of 11 sub-counties.

“As a county we will work with teachers, parents and other stakeholders to improve the performance. We will sponsor a meeting for education stakeholders to address the issue,” the Governor said.

He noted that the County employed 250 ECD teachers this year in a move to boost early childhood education across the county, adding that more will be employed in the next financial year.

On vocational training centers, Governor Kinyanjui said the County is keen on improving TVETs and urged parents to enroll their children in vocational training centers seeing as the county caters for their fees.

The Governor also revealed the County’s plan to address water shortage in Kuresoi North by sinking boreholes in Mungetho and Temyotta that will be powered by solar from June.

The area will also benefit from the Boresha Barabara program to facilitate access to markets.
“Our engineers are under strict instructions to ensure quality work is done by contractors. I will lobby to ensure the road under national Government is rehabilitated,” the Governor said.
