Joy as Elburgon Hospital offers theatre services
Doctors at the Elburgon Level 4 Hospital have performed the first-ever surgery since the hospital was opened in 1997 following the upgrade and equipping of a theatre by the County Government of Nakuru under the leadership of Governor Lee Kinyanjui.
Previously, all surgical operations were referred and conducted at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital in Nakuru town or neighboring counties. The hospital serves thousands of peasant farmers and forest evictees living in various low-income areas in Molo, Njoro and Rongai sub-counties.
Yesterday, a team of doctors led by Dr George Biketi conducted two minor operations. Both patients are recovering well. Going forward, the Elburgon-based hospital will be conducting minor surgeries on Wednesdays and will soon shift to complicated ones.
The hospital’s nursing officer-in-charge, Alpharxard Kemboi said the successful surgeries are a clear testament on the County’s commitment to improving health services.
A ksh40 million maternity wing at the Elburgon Sub-County Hospital is over 60 percent done and will ease congestion at the Molo sub-County Hospital.
Early this year, the County Government of Nakuru replaced old and leaking roofing tiles with corrugated iron sheets, giving the over 20 years old hospital a new look.
The County has employed over 500 healthcare workers in the last one year. They include nurses, paramedics, physiotherapists, radiographers, clinical officers and public health officers.
