Nakuru eyes county with best healthcare services award

Nakuru County is a proud finalist of a prestigious national health sector award scheme, thanks to the improved quality of healthcare services by Governor Lee Kinyanjui’s administration.

The Quality Healthcare Kenyan Awards, now in its third edition, honours excellence and celebrates innovation by individuals and organizations towards providing quality patient-centred care.

Nakuru and Tharaka Nithi are the only counties that were shortlisted as finalists for the coveted County with Best – Managed Healthcare category award.

Chief Officer for Public Health Services, Dr Daniel Wainaina said the award is a recognition of the County’s heavy investment in quality healthcare delivery.

He expressed optimism that Nakuru County will win the award at the gala ceremony slated for today (Thursday, April 07, 2022), which coincides with World Health Day celebrations at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi.

“The award is a clear indicator that Nakuru County minds the health and wellbeing of its people. It will motivate us to perform even better to satisfy our clients more,” he noted.

The County Government of Nakuru allocates over 35 per cent of its total annual budget towards healthcare financing for infrastructural and human resource development.

In 2019, Makueni beat Kisumu to emerge as the category winner. In 2020, the ceremony did not happen due to the COVID-19 scare, but was held virtually in 2021 when Mombasa beat Nakuru County.
