National Support for the Nakuru County Government’s Pyrethrum Revival Program 

Nakuru, Kenya Friday, March 23, 2018 – Together with the Principal Secretary Dr Richard Lesiyampe, Governor Lee Kinyanjui on Friday launched the Pyrethrum Revival Program at KALRO Farm, Kuresoi North Sub-County.

Speaking during the event, the Nakuru County Governor said the County Government of Nakuru is committed to reviving this cash crop that once fetched a good income for many small-hold farmers in the county.

‘We have set aside funds, we are training farmers on Good Agricultural Practices and we have established bulking sites for clean, disease-free and certified pyrethrum planting materials that we will distribute to farmers among other farm inputs’, said Governor Kinyanjui.

He added that both the Nakuru County Government Executive and the Nakuru County Assembly are on the same page on this initiative.

The two arms of the county government are working together in rejuvenating pyrethrum farming as it’s a crop with a high promise of unshackling farmers from poverty and give the dignified livelihoods.

To show the commitment of the County Government of Nakuru in this initiative, pyrethrum revival has been earmarked as a flagship project and funds allocated for the same.  

‘Nakuru County Assembly has okayed a Ksh 29 million budgetary allocation towards pyrethrum farming restoration’, said the Nakuru County Governor.

On his part, the PS Agriculture said National Government fully supports the commitment of the County Government of Nakuru leadership to revive pyrethrum growing.

Dr Richard Lesiyampe affirmed that the National Government will inject more funds towards the cause, augmenting the initiative of the County Government of Nakuru.

‘Revival of pyrethrum is crucial as agriculture is one of the Big Four Agenda for the national transformation that will afford the people high quality of lives’, said Dr Lesiyampe.
