Pyrethrum Dolphin FC crowned 2023 Ghetto Champs at Kamukunji Grounds

Pyrethrum Dolphin FC has been crowned the 2023 Gheto-Champions after beating Bondeni FC 7-6 on penalties, following a 0-0 draw in regular time during the Inter-estate finals of Nakuru Town East Sub-County at the Kamukunji Grounds.
Both teams received trophies and cash prizes with Pyrethrum Dolphin FC receiving Sh300,000 while Bondeni FC received Sh200,000. The area Member of Parliament, Hon. David Gikaria, who organised the event, praised Governor Susan Kihika for enhancing the Kamukunji grounds by constructing three stands.
Nakuru County Governor, H.E Susan Kihika, graced the match alongside Deputy President H.E Rigathi Gachagua. She commended the event organizers for providing an opportunity for the youth to remain engaged and combat issues like drug abuse, idleness, and criminal activities. She also extended her wishes for a happy new year to the residents of Nakuru.
The Deputy President, H.E Rigathi Gachagua, highlighted the significance of affordable housing in creating job opportunities and providing decent housing for locals. In addition to the prize money, Gachagua awarded the winners Ksh.1 Million.
Cabinet Secretary for Water and Sanitation Hon Zack Njeru lauded the importance of tapping the untapped talents at a grassroots level.
County Executive Committee Member for Youth Sports Gender and Social Services Josephine Atieno Achieng urged young people to use sports space opportunities to grow economically and improve their living standards.
The Federation of Kenya Football leadership led by the County chairman Francis Oliele lauded the activity organisers for engaging young people in slums during this eve season.
The tournament started mid-November and brought together all local teams across all wards in Nakuru Town East Sub-county aiming to promote and support talent. They played during their wards level and progressively towards knockout stages up to semis and culminated to the finals whistle.
The tournament organisers praised the commitment and discipline of the players before and during the competition saying they will be great to engage them in future again.
The event was attended by various political leaders, Members of Parliament, County Executive Members, and County Assembly Members.
