County, Jphiego partner to address maternal health

The County Government of Nakuru is strengthening its systems to address childbirth-related deaths in the region as referrals from neighboring counties rise.

Latest United Nations global estimates highlight that over 800 women die each day – roughly one every two minutes-  to childbirth-related complications.

The County Department of Medical Services is committed to ensuring that mothers get the right medical care throughout their pregnancies and at childbirth.

The County has partnered with JHPIEGO, an international non-profit health organization affiliated with Johns Hopkins University,
 to offer quality maternal healthcare.

The Smiles for Mothers project will address the postpartum hemorrhage, the excessive bleeding after childbirth by expanding access to lifesaving care.

Chief Officer for Medical Services Dr. Solomon Sirma said the partnership will strengthen local systems and innovation capacity in the improvement of quality service delivery.

The project coordinator Dr Daisy Ruto said Smiles for Mothers seeks to reduce maternal and neonatal deaths through fortified prevention and management response systems.

Other key partners working to see women have access to high-quality maternal, newborn and child health care McKinsey Company and Health Strat among others.
