County, Kenya Red Cross enhance humanitarian engagement

The County Government of Nakuru will further explore areas of collaboration with the Kenya Red Cross Society to better the lives of County residents, especially marginalized communities.

Already, the County has a working partnership with the humanitarian agency to raise resources to support vulnerable families in the county during the COVID-19 pandemic era.

The County, National Government and the agency partnered in the successful human resettlement program after the Solai dam tragedy in May 2018.

County Minister for Health Dr Gichuki Kariuki added that the County is using the KRCS’s wide community outreach networks in empowering community health workers and volunteers.

He was speaking during an event to award KRCS – Nakuru branch volunteers who collaborated with the County Government of Nakuru in COVID-19 humanitarian assistance programs.

The Nakuru KRCS branch received 4, among them the best top performers award, of the 16 national awards that honor and recognize individuals for outstanding volunteer service.

Nominated Member of County Assembly Ms Racheal Maru received an award for outstanding efforts and dedications towards responding to road traffic incidents along the Nakuru- Eldoret highway.

Mr Peter Chacha who has been a volunteer with KRCS for over 23 as a disaster response management trainer received the KRCS Lifetime Achievement Award.
