County Moves To Repair Roads Damaged By Floods

The County Government of Nakuru is determined to find a long lasting solution to the problem of managing stormwater that has damaged roads in the county.

With reference made to the tender that was released early this year in February, 150M has been set apart for the construction of stormwater drains along Kia Murogi, Kipkelion and Mombasa( Kinuthia Mbugua) roads and construction is set to begin in two weeks time.

The construction is scheduled to begin from the lower side of town to create outlets for water from the upper side of town.

The construction of water drainages on the upper side of town will be catered for in the next financial year.

The County has liaised with KERRA to speed up the rehabilitation of roads in the affected areas.

Roads and Public Works CECM Eng Lucy Kariuki led a team from the County to inspect roads in Kiamunyi following the recent heavy rains.

The CECM was accompanied by the Department Chief Officer Mr. Daniel Muthinga and Roads Director, Eng. James Ochieng’.

The CECM said the County Government will move with speed to repair the roads.

Eng. Ochieng’ said they are putting up stone pitched drainages to manage the heavy rainwater.

In Naivasha, the County Government has initiated measures to address the drainage problem in the town.

The County management under H. E Governor Lee Kinyanjui has deployed excavators to unclog the waterways in the town.

The County has in the meantime urged Nakuru residents to avoid dumping wastes on the roads and waterways that end up blocking the drainages when it rains.
