Patients benefit from the ongoing 2 day free eye medical camp at PGH

At least 90 patients have undergone the corrective eye cataract surgery at Nakuru Referral Hospital on Day 2 of the free eye medical camp in the hospital’s eye unit.

During a tour of the center this morning, Governor Lee Kinyanjui noted that the doctors hope to attend to 300 patients by Friday.

“I’d like to thank our partners from Spain and USA who have brought in doctors and volunteers to assist in this activity. This partnership is a product of the trip that we made to the USA early this year,” the Governor said.

He further stated that there is a large population of Nakuru residents who suffer from various eye conditions, hence the need to make this eye medical camp an annual event.

“The County Government is also working towards upgrading this eye clinic by purchasing modern equipment to make the center a one-stop shop for all eye problems” he added.

The head of the team, Dr. Dashanaba King from Amrita Center thanked the County Government for the support they have been accorded so far.

According to Dr. Isabel Siones from Spain, some of the common eye problems is eye cataracts, especially in elderly persons.

“We check their eyes and prescribe the right lens for each patient before we give them sunglasses,” Dr. Siones said.

She added that the team will be back after three months to distribute reading glasses to the patients.
