County ‘raises the bar’ with COVID-19 prevention efforts

The County Government of Nakuru has partnered with the Amref Health Africa, Ministry of Health and Kenya Breweries Limited to strengthen the County’s COVID-19 response in the hospitality industry.

This is in line with Governor Lee Kinyanjui’s commitment to ensuring that the sector rebuilds economically from the year-long COVID-19 prevention protocols and contain further infections.

The County has trained 26 Public Health officers and critical actors such as bartenders and managers in the implementation of COVID-19 infection prevention controls in bars and other social areas.

Acting Director for Public Health, Ms Elizabeth Kiptoo said health experts have listed bars as COVID-19 super-spreaders and there’s a greater need to creatively focus on the sector, especially with the emergence of the new strain.

The County, working closely with the Nakuru County Bar Owners Association, will support the post-training follow up, monitoring and regular supervision to ensure compliance to COVID 19 regulations.

Ms Lynn Makungu, a project officer at Amref Health Africa said the organization will provide information, education and communication materials to all the premises across the County.
