Ksh 600 million radiotherapy facility at PGH Nakuru almost complete, expected to be operational in July
The Ksh 600 million radiotherapy facility at Nakuru Referral Hospital is almost complete and expected to be operational in July.
This facility will complement cancer treatment services offered at the Oncology centre which currently offers chemotherapy only.
On Wednesday morning, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui accompanied by his Deputy Governor Dr. Eric Korir went on a site visit to inspect the progress of the centre. The two leaders were joined by a team from the Ministry of Public Works led by Arch. Benjamin Ahura.
During the tour, it was revealed that with the radiotherapy equipment, up to 80 cancer patients will be able to receive treatment per day. This will significantly reduce cases of referrals to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret and Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi.
At the moment, training and recruitment of medical staff who will man the facility is ongoing. Installation of some of the accessories and equipment is also being carried out.
Governor Kinyanjui noted that this facility would come in handy across the region.
In 2020, 15,000 patients were treated at the Oncology centre. This reaffirms the need for quality cancer treatment services not just for patients in Nakuru County, but the nearby Counties as well.
