Farmers Benefit From Pyrethrum Seedlings
The County Government of Nakuru today distributed 3.3 million pyrethrum seedlings to farmers in Kinungi, Naivasha Sub County.
The distribution of the seedlings marked another giant step in efforts by the County Government to revive the sub-sector.
Revival strategies initiated under the leadership of H.E Governor Lee Kinyanjui have started bearing fruits with more farmers embracing the crop.
Speaking during the distribution of the seedlings Agricultural CECM Dr. Immaculate Maina said she was optimistic the sector will soon be back on its feet following the measures undertaken by the county government.
More than 3,000 farmers are currently farming the crop from less than 300 three years ago.
Dr.Maina said the County Government had agreed with firms buying the crop that farmers should be paid within 30 days upon delivery.
“We have agreed with the companies that they should pay farmers promptly and if you have any complaint you are free to come to our office s,” she said.
She challenged farmers to organize themselves into cooperatives so that they can reap more from their work.
The CECM was accompanied by Chief of Staff Mr.Njoroge Gichuhi, Director of Political Affairs Beatrice Nyawira, Agriculture Chief Officer Mr.Kibet Maina and MCAs Stanley Karanja and Wilson Mwangi
Gichuhi said the County Government will build a fish market in Naivasha and had already acquired land for the facility.
Last year, fishermen from Lake Naivasha sold fish worth Sh 230 million while private fish ponds in the county generated fish worth Sh 90million.
Gichuhi said the County Government is committed to transforming Naivasha Sub County through the implementation of key projects.
” Under the leadership of H.E the Governor we will fulfill our campaign promises to the people of Naivasha and that’s why we are here today,” he said
