Nakuru Residents To Acquire New Passport With Ease Following The Opening Of New Centre

H.E.Governor Lee Kinyanjui today joined Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i for the official opening of an e-passport issuance center in Nakuru town.

The unit, which will serve Nakuru and neighboring Counties, will go along way in bringing services closer to the people.

The Governor said as Nakuru prepares to become a city the center will be crucial in offering much-needed services to residents and ease the issuance of the new generation passports.

The opening of the office also comes at a time when the construction of an airport in Lanet is becoming a reality with Sh 420 million already set aside to kick start the project.

On his part, the Cabinet Secretary said three other e-passport issuance centers have been opened up in Eldoret, Embu, and Kisii and internationally in Los Angeles, London, Paris, and Pretoria.

The CS urged all Kenyans with the old passports to renew them before the September 2019 deadline.

He noted that out of a total of 2.5 million old passports issued only 1 million had been renewed.

He said foreign Nationals will be required to seek work permits while in their home countries before they are allowed into the country.

The Governor requested the Cabinet Secretary to assist the County Government to install CCTV cameras in the Central Business District as a security management measure.

“We are in the meantime working with security agencies to reign on criminals elements who are not ready to reform and be reintegrated into the society,” he said

Among those present were Deputy Governor Dr Erick Korir, Principal Secretary Department of Immigration Gen(Rtd)Gordon Kihalangwa and Rift Valley Regional Coordinator Mwongo Chimwanga.
